12 November 08 - 09:10It's our 4th Anniversary

I can't believe how time flies.  (insert sounding old right here!)  Nonetheless, these four years have been a wild, fun ride and it's been amazing being on it with you!  Four years ago, we decided to take a chance and open a little shop.  It started out bumpy, we flew by the seat of our pants, but we knew that this was what we were supposed to do.  Thank you for being so loyal and for helping us build our name, reputation, and status as one of the best shoe boutiques in Michigan.  Join us on Saturday, November 15th, as we celebrate where we've been and where we're going.

There will be discounts throughtout the store and for every purchase you make, you will get a raffle ticket that will put you in a drawing to win our best prizes to date. ... (more)

05 November 08 - 13:57Girl's Night Out

NOVEMBER 13th.  (open until 10pm)  This is one of those nights we really look forward to at Lorla's.   We will have special discounts, special drawings, and refreshments, as well as some surprises.  But, what is really special to us is that you will all be there.  We can't wait to share some new things with you.

Pink Duchess is a new shoe line for us that averages $39-$79 and is just a lot of fun.  What a perfect night to share it with you. ... (more)

02 September 08 - 01:02Midnight Madness Sale

I am blown away by how good you people are to me!  How good God is to me!  We knew we were closing on Labor Day (the last few years have shown us that it's not worth taking the time away from family for little or no business on the holidays) and we knew we were going to have to close on Thursday of the same week.  Ekk.  But, hey... it's not the end of the world.  Bob and I are going on a much needed buying trip to book our Spring 09 lines and all our girls are back to college.  As it turns out, Thurs is a "no one can work the store" day.  Oppsy.  So... we thought...ok, how can we make up for the lack of sales, the fact that we may disappoint customers by being closed, and make up for it.  Hence, MIDNIGHT MADNESS!  We reopened the store on Sunday, August 31st from 8pm-11pm and wondered if ... 02 September 08 - 00:50Kangaroo Trunk Show

A special THANK YOU to Jim Lummis from Kangaroo's and to all of you that showed up to experience our first ever Trunk Show.  WHAT FUN!!  Jim laid out the entire Fall and Holiday line for us and we offered a 20% discount for all special orders and 25% off for all Club Card Members.  We were excited to see that you loved what you saw and we were especially excited to see how many men were interested in ordering shoes.  Kangaroo's are a fun throw back to my youth and it's exciting for me to see the young guys coming back in to see if we still have them in the store.  Don't worry, Alex, come on in and we will show you the catalog and let you order anything you want.  Kangaroo's keeps plenty of shoes in stock and they send them quickly. ...

16 June 08 - 03:12Transformation

Sometimes it's time for transformation and other times, transformation just comes.  When did I get old?  I mean, I must be old to have a son that just graduated from High School, right?  I remember my HS graduation like it was (almost) yesterday and last week, I witness my son (the baby that I longed for all my life) accept his high school dipolma and I knew it was time for transformation.

Grand Valley State University is not that far.  2 1/2 hours or so.  A great school.  He's so excited... and I've been preparing myself for a year.  Getting used to the idea that he would be gone.  Starting his own life.  Having the time of his life.  On our way back from the Orientation day, he found this butterfly emerging from it's cocoon.  It's strange enough (a miracle ... 03 May 08 - 18:13Spring Into Action

Here we are in the midst of spring and most of us are wondering if it will ever catch up to us.  For those of you wondering when the weather will prove itself worthy of our expectation, you need only to walk into Lorla's to smell the colors of spring.  Yellow daffodils, purple iris, pink pansies, and orange day lilies prominantly fill our garden with the hopes of brighter days ahead.

This season, we have changed our back room into the Comfort, Casual & Clearance section.  Focusing on shoes that fit your life style with brands such as: Tsubo, Puma, Kangaroos, Eric Michaels, and Bernie Mev, we demonstrate that you don't need to compromise fashion for comfort.  I can't tell you how many people have walked in (seeing only the high heel fashion shoes) and have said that we ... 20 March 08 - 14:11FIRE, FALL & GOOD FRIDAY

FIRE:  It happened so fast and I've decided that I will never try to deep fry again.  Leave it to the experts.  When the fire started on my stove, I thought it would go out (you know... like the small bursts you sometime get from spatting fat under the broiler or in the toaster oven), but when the flames grew, well... my mind could not wrap around what my eyes were seeing.  The flames ended up being 4 feet wide and 6 feet high.  The plant in the kitchen window was in flames, my curtains (thank GOD were canvas and not frilly but they) burned.  The dishwashing liquid bottle just crumbled in melty fashion before my eyes.  No slow motion here.  It was fast.  Grayson and I were beating the flames out with a towel.  The fire extinguisher in the front hall closet (not my brightest move). ... 08 February 08 - 14:25Two Dots and a Hug in California

Two Dots Showroom from Austin, TX, carries United Nude and Tennies, as well as other celebrated brands.  They contacted us in December to interview our store for their National Newsletter and to feature us on their website.  I was so surprised and delighted that such a big company would be paying attention to our little store.  We filled out a small questionaire and forgot about it.  On February 5th, their newsletter hit the internet and we were featured prominantly on their website.  That was cool enough, but not half an hour later, I received a call from Grass Valley, California.  "You don't know me, my name is Maria, and I own a small boutique in Grass Valley."  She went on to say, "You've inspired me today and I want to thank you!"  I had no idea what she was talking about. ...
