15 June 08 - 23:00Transformation

Sometimes it's time for transformation and other times, transformation just comes.  When did I get old?  I mean, I must be old to have a son that just graduated from High School, right?  I remember my HS graduation like it was (almost) yesterday and last week, I witness my son (the baby that I longed for all my life) accept his high school dipolma and I knew it was time for transformation.

Grand Valley State University is not that far.  2 1/2 hours or so.  A great school.  He's so excited... and I've been preparing myself for a year.  Getting used to the idea that he would be gone.  Starting his own life.  Having the time of his life.  On our way back from the Orientation day, he found this butterfly emerging from it's cocoon.  It's strange enough (a ... 03 May 08 - 14:01Spring Into Action

Here we are in the midst of spring and most of us are wondering if it will ever catch up to us.  For those of you wondering when the weather will prove itself worthy of our expectation, you need only to walk into Lorla's to smell the colors of spring.  Yellow daffodils, purple iris, pink pansies, and orange day lilies prominantly fill our garden with the hopes of brighter days ahead.

This season, we have changed our back room into the Comfort, Casual & Clearance section.  Focusing on shoes that fit your life style with brands such as: Tsubo, Puma, Kangaroos, Eric Michaels, and Bernie Mev, we demonstrate that you don't need to compromise fashion for comfort.  I can't tell you how many people have walked in (seeing only the high heel fashion shoes) and have said that we ... 20 March 08 - 10:00FIRE, FALL & GOOD FRIDAY

FIRE:  It happened so fast and I've decided that I will never try to deep fry again.  Leave it to the experts.  When the fire started on my stove, I thought it would go out (you know... like the small bursts you sometime get from spatting fat under the broiler or in the toaster oven), but when the flames grew, well... my mind could not wrap around what my eyes were seeing.  The flames ended up being 4 feet wide and 6 feet high.  The plant in the kitchen window was in flames, my curtains (thank GOD were canvas and not frilly but they) burned.  The dishwashing liquid bottle just crumbled in melty fashion before my eyes.  No slow motion here.  It was fast.  Grayson and I were beating the flames out with a towel.  The fire extinguisher in the front hall closet (not my brightest move). ... 08 February 08 - 10:15Two Dots and a Hug in California

Two Dots Showroom from Austin, TX, carries United Nude and Tennies, as well as other celebrated brands.  They contacted us in December to interview our store for their National Newsletter and to feature us on their website.  I was so surprised and delighted that such a big company would be paying attention to our little store.  We filled out a small questionaire and forgot about it.  On February 5th, their newsletter hit the internet and we were featured prominantly on their website.  That was cool enough, but not half an hour later, I received a call from Grass Valley, California.  "You don't know me, my name is Maria, and I own a small boutique in Grass Valley."  She went on to say, "You've inspired me today and I want to thank you!"  I had no idea what she was talking about. ... 07 February 08 - 14:10MAGIC or was it?

It's hard to know where to start sometimes.  I'm absolutely overwhelmed with how good God has been to me and I just want to tell everyone that will listen!  Ok, last Friday it had been a bad day.  I was in a bad mood (get those?) and the store had been empty all day.  In fact, the store had been slow all week.  This is a "down time" for retail in our area anyway, but that week had been particularly slow.  Not only that, but 4 stores in my neighborhood had closed or had announced their closing and we were all feeling the shock of the economic backlash in Michigan.  Dreadful.  So, there I was alone in the store... all day... feeling sad for my fellow retailers..and maybe a little sad for myself too.  I started to pray.  This store is not owned by the economy.  I know who owns this store.  I thanked God for all He had done and planned ... 22 January 08 - 17:57Some like It Hot

What a great idea!  The City of Northville, Tom Holzer Ford, and local businesses (LIKE US) are sponsoring FREE MOVIES at the Marquis Theatre in Northville.  I was so excited to be part of this and even more thrilled that "Some Like It Hot" was still available.  I've always been a Marilyn Monroe fan and we even host a painting of her in the store (a love gift painted by my husband).  The downside of this venture, is that the tickets for all the movies were distributed at the same time and given out at an Indy500 type speed.  They were gone almost before we realized we had them.  Leaving us whiplashed and bewildered.  Luckily, some tickets have been returned and we will be posting their availability on the home page of our website. ... 24 November 07 - 17:58PEARLS, PEARLS, AND MORE PEARLS

Oh, Pearls!  Is there anything more elegant?  Classic, timeless, and meaningful.  I have had a love affair with pearls all of my life and I know many of you have as well.  Now is your chance to have real pearls at a really incredible price.  Devan Marie Pearls are from Zhu Jiang river (prounounced Jew Jung) in China, which is where the majority of cultured pearls around the world are cultured.  The natural color of pearls are purple, pink, and white and range of colors between.  The black ones are died to look like Tahitian pearls, the only natural black  pearls in the world, which are very rare and cannot be cultured, making them extremely expensive.  All the pearls are AAA in quality (which is the highest grade) unless noted.  AAA quality means the pearls are almost perfectly round and ...
